John B. Neeld, Jr., MD

John B. Neeld, Jr., MD, was appointed to the AMPAC Board in 2004, and served as Chair of the AMPAC Board of Directors from 2007 through 2008. He also serves on the Executive Committee, the Congressional Review Committee and the Membership Fundraising Committee. His previous service includes serving on the Political Education Committee. Dr. Neeld is a board-certified anesthesiologist and is currently a partner in the Department of Anesthesiology and Northside Anesthesiology Consultants at Northside Hospital in Atlanta; he chaired the department from 1985 to 2007. Since 1991, he has been a member of the Northside Hospital Board of Directors and served as Chair from 1995 to 1997.
Dr. Neeld received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, where he also did his internship in surgery. He completed his residency and fellowship in anesthesiology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition, he was an American College of Anesthesiologists fellow and an American College of Chest Physicians associate fellow.
Dr. Neeld has been involved in organized medicine for many years, having been elected President of the American Society of Anesthesiologists for a one-year term from 1998 to 1999. In 2004, he was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Wood Library Museum of Anesthesiology. He has been active with the AMA as an ASA Delegate since 1999 and has served as Chair of the Section Council on Anesthesiology since 2003. Over the years he has held leadership positions with both the Georgia Society of Anesthesiologists and the Greater Atlanta Society of Anesthesiologists.
Dr. Neeld’s other professional memberships include the International Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia, the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG), the Medical Association of Atlanta, the Southern Medical Association. He is currently on the MAG Mutual Insurance Co. Board of Directors.
From 1967-1970, Dr. Neeld served as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He was honored with a Purple Heart, Combat Medical Badge, a Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, and an Army Commendation Medal.
Dr. Neeld and his wife, Gail, reside in Atlanta, Georgia.
