AMPAC co-hosts Regional Seminar with WSMA

On May 18, 2012, AMPAC and Washington State Medical Association presented “Improving Your Political Effectiveness” at WSMA’s Leadership Development Conference. As part of WSMA’s largest ever audience at the conference, more than 70 physicians attended the seminar. Stephanie Vance of Advocacy Associates made a presentation on honing attendees’ advocacy “asks,” using the SGR and a recent state advocacy campaign over Medicaid reimbursement for emergency department visits as examples. Dean Armandroff and Jim Wilson of AMPAC staff discussed specific fundraising and get-out-the-vote (GOTV) techniques that physicians can employ to improve their political impact.

The AMPAC Regional Campaign and Grassroots Seminars are designed to provide training in political campaigns and grassroots lobbying, so that physicians and friends of medicine can help advance medicine’s agenda at all levels of government. AMPAC arranges for faculty and materials, and asks that a state medical society provide meeting space, meals and invite attendees. If your state society would like more information on co-hosting a regional seminar in 2012, please contact Jim Wilson, Political Education Programs Manager
