Biographical Info (hometown, experience, specialty):

Which Program (Campaign School/Candidate Workshop) did you attend?  Do you remember which year?

Campaign School, 1996

Have you run for public office? What was the result?

Successfully elected to Michigan State Senate, District 20, 2003-2010.

Successfully elected to Michigan State House of Representatives, District 61, 2001-2002.

Have the programs helped in your political careers? How?

The AMA Campaign School was a solid crash course in the nuts and bolts of running a campaign. The principles taught were helpful in all of my campaigns for the state legislature. The fact that spouses are included recognizes their important role in evaluating the decision to run for office.

What would you say to members of the medical community thinking about becoming involved in politics?

My wife and I found the AMA Campaign School invaluable preparation for running for the state legislature. I would highly recommend it for any physician and their spouse who is contemplating running for office.
