J. Allen Meadows, MD

The winner of the 2023 AMPAC Award forHeadshot of Dr. Meadows Political Participation is Dr. J. Allen Meadows, MD. Dr. Meadows was nominated by his peers at the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) and the Advocacy Council of the ACAAI for having demonstrated standout contributions through his efforts in political campaigns, fundraising, state and federal PAC education, and garnering support for healthcare related issues during the 2022 election cycle.

Dr. Meadows has been volunteering on campaigns for over 45 years, including the 2022 election cycle. In the most recent cycle, he served on the re-election campaign of his wife, Charlotte Meadows, for Alabama House District 74. While working at his practice and serving and traveling as Associate Director of Advocacy and Governmental Affairs of the American College of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, he coordinated volunteer activities with paid campaign staff, including sign placement and door-to-door campaigning. He planned and scheduled which areas would be covered on which days. During the campaign he personally knocked on more than 3,000 doors working almost every weeknight between 5 and 8 pm, 6-8 hours on Saturday and taking time off from his practice for over 12 weeks.

As part of the campaign, he secured the endorsement and contributions from the state medical association (MASA) and he personally made phone calls raising funds from individuals in the medical community, and specialty medical associations.

In addition, Dr. Meadows was active in many other campaigns, including a number of Congressional campaigns. He contributed funds and served as unofficial health care consultant to many of the candidates. He made phone calls, sent emails, and made social media posts on behalf of the candidates.

Lastly, building on the relationships he developed while advocating on behalf the medical profession, Dr. Meadows became a trusted voice on health care issues for Congressmen Robert Aderholt and Morgan Giffith.

The extensive time Dr. Meadows committed to all these political activities and his steadfast dedication to effectively supporting pro-physician candidates across Alabama and the country makes him a worthy recipient of the 2023 AMPAC Award for Political Participation. For his incredible work, Dr. Meadows was recognized at the AMPAC Capitol Club event during the AMA’s 2023 House of Delegates.
