IMPORTANT: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic the Campaign School will be conducted virtually this year. Full details below.
Recognized as one of the top programs in the country, this comprehensive program will mold you into a winning political strategist and help you elect friends of medicine. The Campaign School is renowned for its use of a simulated campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives, complete with demographics, voting statistics and candidate biographies.
The Virtual Campaign School will be conducted over the course of two consecutive weekends: January 15-17 and 23-24, 2021. This includes a 90-minute virtual welcome reception on Friday, January 15 and each Saturday and Sunday session will run from 11:00am – 3:00pm EST.
The same high-quality programming the Campaign School is known for will remain intact as participants will be broken into online campaign “staff” teams, and apply what they learn in the virtual exercises in strategy, vote targeting, social media, paid advertising and public speaking. Insider tactics will be taught virtually by experts from both sides of the political spectrum. These professionals are the experts currently advising campaigns at every level around the country.
To help participants prepare for the virtual program in January, AMPAC has developed a set of online tools, to be completed before the main program begins. As a participant, leading up to the school, you will receive:
The Campaign School Simulation, which is narrative on a hypothetical Congressional district where the campaign will take place and provides all the information you need to complete the Workbook.
The Campaign School Workbook allows each participant to develop a working familiarity with the core elements of a campaign: Targeting, Strategy and Message. A final section introduces all participants to Social Media elements, which have become an essential element of campaigning. The Workbook can be completed online and managed according to your personal schedule.
Virtual attendees may include physicians, spouses of physicians, residents and medical students interested in becoming more involved in politics. Participants range from those attracted to grassroots efforts to those considering becoming a candidate for public office. No matter where you are in the process, you will develop a new understanding of how campaigns are run. As a graduate of the AMPAC program, candidates will rely on you to give them advice on strategy, message and campaign plans.
Note: Registration fee is $350 for AMA Member/$1000 for non-AMA members. This fee is waived for AMA residents and students; however, space is limited and the AMPAC Board will review and select four participants from the pool of qualified resident and student applicants.
The 2020 Virtual Campaign School is at maximum capacity and registration has been closed. If you would like to be added to the wait list, please contact: Politicaleducation@ama-assn.org for more information.
